MSA GIVING TUESDAY White stacked red heart.png

For 98 years, Marin Society of Artists (MSA) has been a beacon for creativity and community, with a base of dedicated members who volunteer their time to keep this nonprofit thriving. Members have a deep passion for the arts and a commitment to this historic institution.

MSA offers so much to the art community with accessibility to art, education and workshops in Marin, the Bay Area and nationally.

-  The CrossRoads Program offers affordable art education opportunities for families and adults, including those with developmental and physical challenges, and the underserved. MSA has regular art workshops for the vision-impaired, and partners with The Canal Arts and other local organizations to support public art and arts activities in under resourced communities.

-  MSA co-manages the Downtown San Rafael Arts District (DSRAD), one of only 14 cultural districts designated by the State of California Arts Council. Working with DSRAD, MSA championed several public art projects in the largely immigrant Canal community working with The Canal Alliance, the San Rafael School District and The Canal Arts.

-  MSA is a leader in The Canal Arts, a consortium of 14 Marin arts, government, business and community organizations that foster public art and arts activities in and with the Canal community. MSA acts as fiscal sponsor for The Canal Arts program work, sponsoring family arts activities at the Al Boro Community Center and the “Peoples of the Canal” mural on the Boro Center.

-  MSA participates in the monthly 2nd Friday Art Walk, annual Marin Open Studios, ongoing arts and cultural events in downtown San Rafael, and makes art available in a variety of community locations at no cost to artists or venues.

-  Annually, MSA presents several Bay Area juried fine art shows, national online juried shows and member only shows. MSA manages the Art Centre at  1515 3rd Street, San Rafael which houses 17 art studios, self-curated gallery rental walls for artist members, as well as affordably priced space for classes, workshops and community use.

-  MSA has expanded community involvement to include partnering with other non-profit community service organizations to sponsor fundraising events for the SF-Marin Food Bank, St. Vincent de Paul Society of Marin, WildCare Animal Hospital and Marin Postpartum Center.

Post pandemic challenges and rising costs of rent, building maintenance and operations pose a financial challenge. With only one part time bookkeeper employee, MSA volunteers play a pivotal role in making the arts accessible to everyone. And now we are asking for your help.

As we approach our 100th year, we invite you to become part of this legacy in Marin. Your generosity ensures that MSA continues to inspire, educate and connect through the power of art.

Thank you for keeping the arts alive in Marin with your online tax-deductible gift or by sending a check to 1515 3rd Street, San Rafael, CA 94901 ATTN: Bookkeeper

With gratitude,
